More Florida Fun

September 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The sun is still shining and it is still steamy hot here in Florida, but we are having a great time.  In the last few days we have visited Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Disney Quest and Gatorland; we have shopped and snacked and swam ….and we are exhausted!

Here are some more pictures of our trip:

Fun in the Sun…..

September 17, 2008 · Leave a Comment

….and heat! It has been blazing hot and humid!

We are in Florida and having a great time on our vacation.  So far we have been to Sea World, Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and part of Epcot.  It is so fun to watch the kids see and experience the magic that is Disney.  I was worried that being older they might not let themselves really enjoy and embrace the whole experience, but they have been really good.  Of course their favorite rides are anything doing with water or roller coasters!

Here are some pictures of our trip so far!

Well, I goto go, Mickey is waiting, I will try to post more later this week.

Holiday Weekend and Hidden Talents

September 2, 2008 · Leave a Comment

We had a nice long holiday weekend.  We went down to Connecticut to help my husband’s niece and her husband work on their new house.  They bought an older home that is really very cute, but needs some updating!  Last time we were there we helped tear the carpet off from the stairs and refinish them, they look really good now.  This time our big project was to help repair the hardwood floors so that they can refinsh them.  WHAT A JOB!  The floor had several plywood patches covering holes in the floor.  The patches had to all be ripped up, repaired from the basement and then have the new hardwood laid in around the existing floor.  The guys worked really hard and it was slow and tedious work.  We were able to help them accomplish all but one little section of the floor.  Hopefully they are able to get it done and sanded this week like they wanted.

We really didn’t do much else over the weekend.  The guys did manage to squeeze in a couple of hours of fishing while us girls went to IKEA.  My main goal while shopping was to pick up a new cover to my ottoman, which I did find, plus a couple of other odds and ends for the house-nothing too exciting.

I did discover a hidden talent this weekend, one I would never have guessed that I had–and I certainly wouldn’t have believed anyone if they had told me!  I discovered that I can serve a volleyball with great accuracy! Now for most people that is probably no big deal, but I happen to be one of the least athletically inclined people on planet earth.  Not to mention, I haven’t played volleyball in almost 20 years and the last time I did I ended up with a broken nose and a severly bruised foot.  The kids, Dan and his niece were all playing volleyball and I was in my usual spot on the sidelines watching, the kids kept asking me to play.  I decided that since we weren’t in public and most of my opponents were under 5 feet tall, I would play for a few minutes.  When it was my turn to serve, I kept serving towards my youngest who wasn’t getting to play as much as he wanted and next thing I knew they were all saying “let mommy serve”.  Keep in mind this was a bunch of kids and amatuers, I would never be able to play with anyone serious about the game, but the kids did talk about my “amazing” serving abilities half way home—and I have the bruised up arms to prove it.

Now we are on COUNTDOWN TO DISNEY!  I have 11 days to figure out the rest of our itinerary, make hotel reservations, do laundry, pack, prepare car entertainment (we will be spending almost 50 hours in the car over 2 weeks!), plus keep up with school, the house, finishing up a couple of swaps I am involved in and anything else that might pop up in the next week or so–prayers for sanity are appreciated:)!
