So, I haven’t had much time for creative endeavors the last few days, but I finally got a chance to sew up a summer top for my daughter from a pattern on Sew, Mama, Sew. I also made her a headband cover, which if I can ever figure out how to add a pdf to my blog, I will share the tutorial (I am really not very computer savvy).

We are getting ready for a trip to Michigan, and I had a couple of projects to finish to take with me.

My sewing machine has been humming away today. I finished up my apron for the winter apron swap and have 3 more that just need the ties sewed on. It turned out pretty cute. I wasn’t sure on the fabric combination, but it is growing on me. Hopefully my swap partner will love it! (the picture is not great, but I didn’t want to drag Anne out of her corner for a picture)

I also made us some new stockings. We have been using dollar store ones for the last few years and I wanted something a little more special. I think I am going to crochet some lace edging to attach if I can find the time.

Well, I am off to the post office to get my box mailed, then I need to get some dinner started.

We started school on Monday and the day was filled with attitude, tears and gnashing of teeth. It was a rough day as we adjusted to how to use the computerized curriculum and all it’s little quirks. Most of the day was spent on school and by the time we were done I was so emotionally worn out I hid upstairs with the sewing machine. Of course, I was so worn out everything I tried to sew didn’t really work out. I did manage to put together a cover for my hot water bottle, but it is only ok.
Tuesday I had a doctors appointment first thing in the morning. When I walked through the door at 9:30 am the kids were all excited, they had all three completed their days assignments. After checking all their work I was impressed that they had indeed completed the days work. Of course alot of the days work was introducing projects and assignments that will be due later in the month, but it was nice to have an easy day that boosted their (and my) confidence in our choice of curriculum. While I was at the doctors office the doctor was concerned about a mole on my back that had been itching and she decided was “suspicious”. I didn’t get any sewing done, because my dear husband decided to take me out on a date. We went to the fabric store and I picked up some fabric for an apron swap I am doing and then we went out for a snack. It was a nice time. I also picked up a cute 2 piece outfit from Talbots, the original price was $198 and I paid $5!
Today we woke up to pouring rain and cool temperatures, it was actually a welcome change from the steamy weather we have been having. I had to go to the dermatologist and he decided to remove the mole on my back to test it, I will get the results in a week or so. The worst part of the whole mole thing is that it was near my shoulder blade and it aches every time I move my arm, hopefully by tomorrow it will not be quite so sore. School was better today and the kids were done by 2 pm. My project of the day was a colored pencil roll that I made for Hannah to send to her penpal for her birthday. It turned out okay, but I definately found a couple of things I would do differently. The pattern is from the book Last Minute Patchwork Gifts.

For a while now I have been admiring aprons and apron patterns that I have seen on other blogs and thinking about making myself one, but I could never decide which one I like the best. I finally decided to jump in and make myself one, it’s not like I can’t have more than one! This was the result:
Like my cute model, I couldn’t take a picture of myself wearing it, Hannah is not home and my alter ego (dress form) has not arrived yet.

I think it turned out pretty good for not really having a pattern. I love the retro fabrics and it is a really cheery apron, plus it has a handy towel tab on the side to hook in one of my handwoven towels (now I just need to get my loom repaired so I can make some to match!)
While I was in the sewing room I also decided to whip up a coffee cozy for our french press to help keep the coffee warmer a little longer in the mornings. It turned out better than I hoped, seeing I was making it up as I went along. These were some vintage inspired fat quarters I picked up on one of our travels.
I even made it reversible so it can fit my mood!
I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my dress form which I finally saved up enough to order! I have been trying to decide what I am going to call my alter ego when she arrives (’cause all good dress form have names!). Currently I am thinking that she will be called Anne Shirely after Anne of Green Gables. Hannah and I have been reading the book together and I am hoping that the dress form and I will be kindred spirits. Plus, Anne and I would then share the same initals (A.S.). What do you think??
